Stewardship

Stewardship of time, talent and treasure is a major thread that ties our parish community together. It defines the whole philosophy of the parish toward its pastoral needs as well as its financial responsibilities. Tithing, rather than fund raising, is a parish policy and a major source of our income. Parishioners are asked to pledge a percentage of their money, time and talent to support the work of the Parish. Stewardship is using, with integrity and faithfulness, the gifts which God has given.

Each of you, as a good manager of God’s gifts, shall use for the good of others the special gifts you have received from God. (1 Peter 4:10)

Make a Commitment

Time

We often make the statement “we don’t have time.” Yet, we have as much time as anyone else. Furthermore, the time we have is not ours…it is a generous gift bestowed upon us by God. Use your time to include your own ongoing religious education and faith development as well as ministry to others.

Talent

Each one of us has many talents that have been given to us freely from God. Likewise, we are called to use these talent’s for furthering God’s kingdom as well as serving our parish community. Only when we use our talent’s can they fully be appreciated. St. John Berchmans parish is very pleased to offer many opportunities for service through liturgical ministries, services and programs.

Treasure

Our treasure, like time and talent, is also given to us by God. We are truly blessed for the bounties that God provides us with. We do not give to the church to pay of a debt or a building fund, but to God, to help further His Mission on Earth. Our parish has been blessed that many of our parishioners practice the act of Tithing. Tithing can seem like an impossible goal to new or maturing Christians, therefore, we are asked to become percentage givers. We are to commit to God a set percentage of our income, making the commitment a top priority in our spending. Until we have given God control of our finances and our time, we have not really surrendered to Him control of our lives. Keeping the tithe, as the Bible teaches, is essentially a matter of the heart.
